Kiln Glass Art
Sylvia attended several classes at the Blue Dog Glass establishment, Melbourne, in 2008 and 2009. It was the attendance at these classes that fired an interest and passion to understand and practice the art of kiln fired glass art.
In 2010 Sylvia built a small kiln that enabled her to start engaging in kiln fired glass art. Moving to Meringandan West QLD in 2012, Sylvia acquired a much larger kiln and set up a studio. “GlassOwl Studio”, has provided a focus to produce useful stylish items and to develop pure works of art that mirror her creative fervour. In 2016 Sylvia had her first solo exhibition ‘Never Stop Being Surprised’ at the Rosalie Gallery, Goombungee QLD. This was a great success and inspired Sylvia to widen her techniques. In 2017 and 2018 Sylvia received an award from the Queensland Glass Guild for a special themed piece as part of the Guild Annual Exhibition. Additionally, Sylvia was awarded the people choice award in 2017 as part of that exhibition.
Sylvia seeks to gain a further understanding of the properties of glass as she works in a medium that is as old as time. Each piece enables the viewer to consider a spectrum of colours’ and
forms. Kiln Glass art creates objects that are reflective, refractive, iridescent, and brilliant.
